Arnold Soccer Enthusiastic Talks about the Importance of Being Distinct
Dallas, Texas – The ability to talk in two different languages for two different countries as a soccer writer is not your normal occupation.
In the case of Jon Arnold, it is.
As a sports writer for Goal.com, Arnold covers North American soccer, which includes the beat of the Mexican men’s national team.
“Be open to your path not going as you wanted to go,” this was said by Arnold, in his lecture to a class of sports Writing in UNT Dallas where he discuss how to become successful in this business.
In college the writer, founded useful “doing something and doing it know” because while studying he was involve with student media, newspaper and internships with channel eight and five. With this Arnold, could show the people that he had practice by “doing things to be able to put something in front of them”.
When Arnold, was not able to get a job in sports writing or media, he needed to use connections to work for a small business called Stretch Internet.
Where he had worked already for an internship in broadcasting games, so knowing him he ended up working there for three years. “It was totally outside of what I wanted to do, but I knew it was a job I would have enjoy and it was in sports” and this showed him that “goals can change and you need to be able to adapt.”
It resulted in a full time career in soccer for him, where he accomplish one of his goals this summer when he went to the World Cup in Russia to cover some games.
Another thing that came in handy for Arnold, when he was trying to get into the sports industry is to be “specialize” in something specific. “I’m the soccer guy and I also speak Spanish” with this he “provide something that no one else in the world can do” and made him attain a job for being “very marketable in the job market”.
The “mentors or the people in the industry who are establish” have helped him with honest feedback about his worked, so he has been able to lean on them for jobs like the editor from goal.com that hired him.
Arnold, also founds it important to have something to do other than working in this industry because “it is cool, but you need a hobby of not what you are doing to bring you joy and to not get bog down by all the work.”
“It is worth it to pursuit this career, go for it and if people or guest speaker do not think you are good enough, push through because it can be incredibly full feeling.”
This words from Arnold, show how much he loves his job and that he would do whatever it takes to help the people find their way to be successful in the sports industry.
